Speed Dating

Speed dating is a dignified matchmaking process or dating system (a variant of a meeting system) whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. Speed dating is a radically new and refreshing way of meeting people as it simply hastens the process of meeting people and finally builds a relationship. The concept of the application revolves around meeting people at a prearranged location and submitting your impressions about them.

These impressions are tabulated and people who have similar positive impressions about each other are sent emails about their relevant contact information so that they can carry their relationship further. This application provides meeting of people with similar interests. Events with details of location and other information are posted online and participants search for the events and sign up to attend an event. Each participant has up to ten dates in a night. Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a sequence of short dates, generally lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell or clinks a glass to signal the participants to go on to the next date.

These events usually require advance registration, often an online prepayment by credit card. However, they may accept a few walk-ins when needed to balance the sex ratio. Some services make use of waitlists when signing up to struggle for exactly the same number of men and women, while others have a most party atmosphere and only aim for an approximately matching number. There are many speed dating events now exists in some countries. Many of these simply specify an age range for ladies and gentlemen and also sometimes a slightly older range is specified for men. On the other hand, many organizers offer niche events such as nights for graduates only, older men with younger women, gays and lesbians and vice versa, book lovers, ethnic events, and of course the original niche event, religious affiliation.

Proponents of speed dating cite its advantages as: It allows singles to meet a huge number of new people in one easy event. It is especially proficient for busy professionals or those that have limited social circles and it levels the playing field for men and women. Men don’t have to play their traditional role as the aggressor—both men and women are forced to meet and interact. The structured interaction helps shy people to conquer their inhibitions. The time limit ensures that nobody is stuck talking to someone longer than they wish. The matching process occurs after the event, ensuring people don’t have to face rejection in person. This helps avoid awkward situations and nervous interactions between participants during the event. Participants are nearly always guaranteed that the people they meet are single or at least looking. This is generally more difficult to distinguish when one goes to a bar or a club. It is something that women who like to move out in groups can do together. Participants are typically grouped in their preferred age range. Speed dating is cost efficient and it is essentially numerous dates for the price of one.
